LAKELAND LIBRARY COOPERATIVE DIRECTOR
The Lakeland Library Cooperative (headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI) is seeking a knowledgeable and
experienced library administrator as its next Cooperative Director. Lakeland Library Cooperative (LLC) is a state cooperative agency serving
libraries in eight West Michigan counties by providing opportunities to share resources, services and expertise for the benefit of the libraries
and the communities they serve. With a $1.6 million annual budget and 25 system employees (16.8 FTEs), LLC is a membership-driven organization with
a mission to build on the strengths of its diverse members through cooperative action to provide superior service to its member libraries and their
constituents.
Responsibilities. As chief administrative officer, the Cooperative Director reports to a nine-member Board composed of representatives
from member libraries and has overall responsibility for fulfilling and advancing LLC’s mission through an effective and dynamic program of
cooperative services. Overall responsibilities include: organizing and administering the system’s resources to carry out its strategic goals;
providing effective leadership in implementation of long-range planning; developing and maintaining an effective communication program;
strengthening current funding sources, seeking additional revenue sources and overseeing sound financial practices; developing and maintaining
effective training, consulting and continuing education programs; and representing LLC’s interests by participating in library activities at

Minimum Qualifications. A master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program and a minimum of four years of
administrative library experience. Experience with a large cooperative or a multi-site library system is desirable. Essential knowledge, skills
and abilities include: a thorough knowledge of public libraries, especially their goals and objectives; significant experience with library
automation systems; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others; a thorough
understanding of accounting, budgeting and financial planning; and ability to prepare financial and other statistical reports. Experience working
with a policy-making board and a diverse membership is highly desirable.
Compensation.Entry salary range $80,000 - $95,000 (placement dependent upon experience and qualifications) with a
generous benefit package.
